This is the preliminary display of the chinese hamster (Cricetulus griseus) genome produced by the Beijing Genomics Institute in Shenzhen. The whole assembly is composed of 109,152 scaffolds with a N50 value of 1.1Mb and 265,786 contigs with a N50 value of 39.4kb.

Preliminary gene annotation in chinese hamster was generated by aligning proteins from Uniprot belonging to the vertebrate subphylum, 97,840 raw gene models were predicted from 108,025 proteins. Ensembl proteins from mouse were also aligned using release 64, 22,473 gene models were predicted. A set containing 1,138 chinese hamster proteins from RefSeq produced 1,303 gene models. 64,528 cDNA sequences from the NCBI were aligned to the genome using Exonerate. 53,549 cDNA alignments were kept with over 95% identity and over 95% coverage. In addition, ab initio gene predictions and BLAST alignments of sequences from several public databases (e.g. UniGene, EMBL Vertebrate RNA, UniProtKB) are available.

There are currently no plans to progress to full genome annotation for this assembly.
