This site provides the second release of the Dog assembly in 7.6X coverage [May 2005 CanFam 2.0] from the Dog Genome Sequencing consortium.
The total number of bases in the assembly is 2309 Mb in 87 supercontigs. The N50 supercontig size is 45.63 Mb and the size of gaps in supercontigs is 18 Mb. The total estimated size 2328 Mb. The N50 size is the length such that 50% of the assembled genome lies in blocks of the N50 size or longer. [See information on the Dog Sequencing Project].
The preliminary gene build for the CanFam 2.0 assembly consists of genes built from 3 different evidence sources: Canis familiaris-specific proteins (6,859 genes), Ensembl predicted proteins in human with a homologue in mouse (14,775 genes) and Ensembl-predicted proteins in mouse with a homologue in human (14,844 genes).
A full Ensembl gene build for Canis familiaris [CanFam 1.0] is available on the main Ensembl Canis familiaris site. The gene build for CanFam 2.0 will be available soon.
